What does a ski resort in the country of Georgia, a hip place to watch World Cup matches in England, a kindergarten classroom in Japan, and schools in Australia have in common? They all serve important or useful purposes and they were all constructed at a fraction of the cost of most buildings. All of these places have a unique architectural design. They’ve all been made out portable storage containers, just like the ones you’ll find at A.B. Richards.
>A.B. Richards Will Serve All of Your Storage Needs
We’re in the business of renting out portable storage containers at A.B. Richards, and we can find the containers that will serve all your storage needs. For smaller storage jobs, like small business inventory or residential storage, we’d recommend our 20ft storage containers. They can fit on a smaller lot. For larger storage needs, like industrial use or storing materials and equipment at a construction job site, you should consider our 40ft-storage containers or our 40ft Jumbo containers with an extra foot of headroom.
We’re a rental company, so we can’t let you turn one of our storage containers into a school, but we’re always interested in the creative uses we see for storage units and we want to share some of these uses from all over the globe.
School Days in Storage Containers
It’s a shiny, modern looking facility, and it was built to preserve a school in Saitama, Japan, a suburb of Tokyo, that’s served the community for a half century. According to Curbed, the kindergarten’s designers, Hibinosekkei and Youji No Shiro, decided to make environmental considerations and the potential for reuse important parts of the project. They created the facility by stacking storage containers together, putting wood paneling on the interior and installing glass doors that open up to a central courtyard and a covered terrace.
Earlier this year, Australia made its first foray into creating shipping container classrooms at the German International School Sydney. The two buildings were made from 12 modified shipping containers, according to the Daily Telegraph. New South Wales Minister of Education Rob Stokes praised the environmental friendliness of the project. “I have always been a firm believer in environmental determinism: the better one’s learning environment, the greater their educational outcomes,” he said.
Bottoms Up and Down the Slopes
When the business publication, Verdict was looking to recommend great places to enjoy a drink and watch the 2018 World Cup matches from Russia, they recommended BOXPARK, which was showing the France vs. Belgium semifinal match on big screen TVs. What is BOXPARK? According to their website, it’s the “world’s first pop-up mall” Opened in 2011, this retail space is made entirely from storage containers. It’s a soccer fan’s dream, filled with cafes and restaurants.
If your sports tastes run more toward hitting the slopes, there’s a shipping container facility for that too. According to the website GreenMatters, the Quadrum Ski and Yoga Resort in Gudauri, Georgia is made mostly out of storage containers. The pyramid-like structure descends down a mountain.
