Alternative Uses: Storage Unit Office Park

June 8, 2017 by Nicole Garraffo

Storage Unit Office Park with A.B. Richards

Imagine getting into your car, stopping for your morning coffee and breakfast, getting on to the highway and driving to your job that happens to be inside a storage container. It’s not as far-fetched as you think. More and more builders are erecting offices and work facilities made from storage units. At A.B. Richards, we’re a rental company so we can’t let you set up an office park with one of our portable storage containers, but we’re constantly fascinated by the many uses people find for them, so we want to take a look at storage container offices and tell you about how useful and easy it is to rent a storage container from A.B. Richards.

A.B. Richards Can Help on Your Job Site

If you need commercial storage we’ll lend a hand, if you need to store extra inventory or if you have old files or if you need to store seasonal equipment. Our portable storage units are also ideal if you’re setting up a construction site. We can help you store your equipment including heavy machinery.

Building a Storage Unit Office Park

While these are traditional uses for portable storage containers, we’re seeing many non-traditional uses as well. Storage containers are being repurposed as offices and not just as single room workspaces. For example, in the Fort Worth area.

According to CBS News, plans are underway to build a local office park out of storage containers. The three-story structure will be made out of 40 containers and the offices will be able to accommodate 2 to 3 workers and give workers 160 square feet of space.

When the project is completed in October 2017, it will be the biggest storage container office complex in the state of Texas and the first of its kind in the Dallas–Fort Worth area. The office complex is also expected to be environmentally friendly. Energy for the complex will be entirely generated by solar panels and wind turbines.

Portable Storage Units Can Help Utilize Space

The San Francisco area is another metropolis that’s seeing offices pop up in storage containers. Campsyte, a company dedicated to finding uses for underutilized spaces. Campsyte’s workspace included an empty parking lot and the company decided to bring in portable storage containers and use them for offices. “They’re modular, they’re re-locatable and they’re also kind of funky and quirky,” Campsyte co-founder and CEO Dennis Wong told the ABC News affiliate in the bay area.

We’re also seeing shipping container offices make an impact overseas. UK architect Simon Astride incorporated storage units into his design for an office and showroom of a London tile manufacture according to the website dezeen.

Astride added flair to the office with teal green shelving and greenery. For the showroom, he employed clay for the entrance buzzer and the staircase handrail.

“I want my clients to walk into a space and not be able to keep their hands in their pockets,” he told the website.

“I want them to touch the different hues, textures and colors of the tiled product. I want them to run their fingers over the walls and the floor.”
